Cancellation Policy

MASK's tuition scale is based upon 4 classes per month for the Tots (Saturday morning kids) and 8 classes per month for all others.  If there is an individual cancellation more often than not it occurs in such a way that the students will still get all of their necessary classes.  Make-up classes are frequently offered anyway because we truly loathe the idea of canceling class, however the number of available classes may be a factor in the decision about scheduling a make-up class.  Despite our loathing, sometimes it is necessary to cancel class.  If a substitute instructor is availabe for to cover for Sensei Oviatt, in the event of an absence, no make-up session is necessary.

Historically MASK has seen an exceptionally low turn-out for make-up sessions.  Consequently, if a make-up session is in order, we will send an email to ascertain whether or not a make-up session would be utilized.  In the event that 5 or more students / their parents reply that a make-up would be attended, we will place the class on the schedule.  If the response is not favorable then the make-up session will not occur.

Please review the following conditions that might merit a cancellation.

Severe weather conditions, primarily ice or heavy snow whether in progress or forecasted.	No
Kingstowne cancels our classes, typically this only happens on election days as the facilities are used for voting.	No
Sensei Oviatt is ill. If Sensei Oviatt cancels class due to illness rest assured that he is REALLY sick.  We will attempt to provide a substitute instructor so there is no interruption in the class schedule. Make-up classes will depend upon the circumstances, including the number of class opportunities that month.	Maybe
Federal Holidays Classes will be canceled for New Year's Eve & Day, the 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.	No
Special training events.  Occasionally we have guest instructors, commonly Sato Sensei, Sensei Bedard & Tashi Price.  The students should be participating in these events.	No
Sensei Oviatt attends a training event.  This must occur from time to time to ensure that Sensei Oviatt is improving his performance and, consequently, the performance of the students.	Yes, unless a substitute is available.
Oviatt Family emergencies	Maybe
Natural or unnatural disasters, crisis, emergencies or general mayhem - as seen with the events of 9/11/01 & Hurricane Isabelle.	Probably not
Other The Oviatt Family will occasionally take a short vacation, and rarely take an extended vacation.  Unforeseen life-events Other general unforeseen events.	Maybe, based upon the circumstances.
