Oviatt Sensei's over-riding objective for Mid-Atlantic Shitokai is to help ordinary people become extraordinary black belts.  His children's classes focus on self-discipline, respect for self and others, and having fun while learning.  Adult classes focus on the three core areas of fitness (strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance) and practical self-defense skills.

Oviatt Sensei has spent 19 years studying the martial arts, and over 15 years teaching individuals of all ages and experience levels, ranging from children with disabilities to law-enforcement officers.  With a Master's of Education from the University of Virginia and a wide range of experience (Shito-ryu (Yondan), Shuri-te jiu-jutsu (Shodan),  taekwon-do (Nidan), Muay Thai & Western kickboxing, Jun Fan, Escrima and jiu-jitsu, not to mention training received as a former law-enforcement officer and experience gained as a licensed physical education teacher), Oviatt Sensei has a unique perspective on martial arts training and self-defense.
